Anyone have recommendations for leather conditioners? Is it worth getting something expensive like the AMMO stuff?

I've been using Mothers Leather Conditioner for years. Seems to work. I bet they have more chemists compared to Larry.

its good enough for hose wonks and camera dweebs. I've used it for years. Its good. Its not the cheapest, but its far from the most expensive.

I personally use Lexol, too; and you can get it at any autoparts store. If you want to go fancy check out Obenaufs. I use their LP on my boots and the stuff is amazing. Some guys use it on their seats, but personally I think it's too heavy duty. Their oil might be better suited.
